Overview

IMAX cinemas offers a unique and immersive movie experience. Films are displayed on special screens that are up to eight stories high and in crystal clarity. These screens have a slight curvature and fills the your peripheral vision, guaranteeing a truly immersive feeling. Sound is produced using a wrap-around digital surround sound, using 44 speakers and 16 amplifiers. Very advanced projectors are used to display the movies and produce the ultimate in viewing pleasure. Special IMAX cameras are used to to capture these movies. These cameras shoot at 15 perforations on 70mm film, the largest existing film format.

Currently, there are two IMAX theatres in South Africa, located at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Durban and the Menlyn Park Shopping Centre in Pretoria. IMAX - Larger Than Life Experience.
